Day 4 - Tue, Jun 10, 2025
Today I worked in triage, I think they're still trying to figure out what to do with me.
I would basically see the patient first, do their exam, and then send them to the appropriate place and/or doctor.
I was busy, because I was the closest thing to an actual doctor, and so all of the patients went through me. There is a ton of patients that come in for a shot of antibiotics every day, because they have some random tropical disease. Another big group is pregnant women, I estimate about a quarter of the town is pregnant. And then there is the group that has a part of their body that is either missing or about to be.
There was a woman that came in to the ED completely septic and unconscious and I think paralyzed... which I'm not good at diagnosing because pretty much everything down here is trying to kill you. They did a quick blood test and determined she had some tropical disease, and had to go to the hospital. As a reminder, the hospital is 5 hours away on the road from hell. So they literally loaded her into the back of a small pickup, strapped an oxygen tank down in the back, ran the hose through the window and taped it down, and hung an IV on the coat hook. And off they went.
Not really any more drama, I think everyone pretty much lines up at 7a and when they're gone we're done for the day.
